SCP benefits from years of experience in resolving the highways and transportation issues for residential schemes across the country. Our collective experience ensures that we provide the best advice to our clients throughout the entire planning process. This advice extends from identifying the optimum location and design for the site access and internal vehicular circulation routes to ensuring the needs of pedestrians and cyclists are adequately catered for. We advise on the integration of development sites into their surroundings to enhance their accessibility by a choice of modes of transport and we prepare the necessary formal Transport Statements and Assessments in support of residential planning applications.
Our advice is always provided using the latest research and techniques and in the context of the most up-to-date planning policies and technical design standards. We have considerable experience of all sizes and types of residential development, from open market housing estates to housing association development, retirement villages, care homes and student accommodation. The Wincham Urban Village site is located to the north-east of Northwich and if approved, will feature around 1,050 houses and mixed commercial uses. SCP has been involved with the site since 2003 and have advised on all highway-related aspects of the proposals. Currently, the scheme is at the planning application stage, for which SCP prepared a comprehensive Transport Assessment and Interim Travel Plan.

SCP produced a Transport Assessment and Travel Plan in support of several student accommodation schemes in Huddersfield located on the south side of the town centre. The key development was on the site of the former Brewfitt Mill which included 443 student bedrooms contained within 103 individual flats.
SCP advised BAe Systems throughout the successful promotion of the last phase of development on the former Royal Ordnance Factory, Chorley. Planning permission was secured for approximately 1,100 dwellings and 20,000m2 of commercial development. We were retained by BAe for the detailed design of the site access onto the A49 and the spine road through the site to enable fully serviced plots to be taken to the market.
SCP advised Redrow in the redevelopment of land adjacent to Thingwall Hall for approximately 525 dwellings. Following a successful appeal against non-determination in 2007, we advised Redrow on a subsequent application for an alternative range and mix of development that better reflected new market conditions.
Partington is one of the most deprived areas of the UK with a high proportion of social housing. The canalside site will offer up to 550 units, lying between the existing housing and the Manchester Ship Canal.
SCP carried out detailed assessments of traffic assignments, as well as identifying and designing junction improvements to mitigate the impact of the development. Discussions were held with a range of stakeholders throughout the process, including Trafford Council, bus operators, schools and the passenger transport executive. Analysis of different modes required accessibility assessments which led to proposals to enhance the public transport in Partington.

SCP advised on a mixed use development located on a former industrial site which required significant remediation works alongside the Rochdale Canal. The predominantly residential development was accompanied by a hotel, pub and office accommodation. SCP prepared a Transport Assessment and Travel Plan for the site, requiring extensive discussions with the Local Highway Authority in order to resolve sensitive issues on local congestion and sustainability.
SCP were involved with a significant project to refurbish Pagefield Mill in Wigan, which had most recently been used by the Wigan and Leigh College. The old mill building is due to be converted into apartments, with attractive park views, while the remainder of the site will provide new housing. The proximity of the town centre and the excellent accessibility of the site offered the opportunity to reduce car parking requirements and provide a car club as part of the proposals.
