SCP offers a range of services utilising Accession software and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). We can investigate site accessibility by different modes of travel, such as walking, cycling and public transport. However, we can also use GIS with demographic data to allow a statistical analysis to be carried out. A few examples of our capabilities follow (download our Accessibility Planning services sheet for information):
We can assess the catchment area of a development site either on foot, by cycle or by public transport through the use of Accession software. We also hold an extensive database of facilities, including health, education and retail. This database can be used to gauge the suitability of a site for residential use, for example, against stated targets for accessibility.
Using the latest census data, we can assess the potential catchment of a development site and analyse the demographic data within the calculated area. For example, this could be used to assess the demographics of a potential retail development for a specified drive-time or calculate the catchment population of a potential medical centre.
We can illustrate the journey times to and from development sites by various modes of transport and highlight the facilities accessible within certain time limits. We can use this information within a Travel Plan, demonstrating the level of accessibility to local services in order to support lower traffic generation or reduced parking requirements. Our Travel Plan Coordinator services provide geographical mappings of a site’s existing travel patterns allowing individuals to identify realistic car-sharing opportunities or alternatives to the private car.
