Scheme Summary:

Planning, Feasibility and Detail Design of “Traffic Signal” Highway Improvement scheme to unlock land for retail employment. The scheme was a complicated traffic signal scheme closely located between two existing traffic signals on Bolton Road in Bury. The delivery was a collaboration between the Developer, TFGM, Bury Council and SCP.

The highlights were that the scheme was assessed at planning and the traffic in and signal works were reviewed as part of the Transport works with a collaboration with TFGM and the scheme was delivered on programme and in budget due to the preconstruction efforts of the team involved.

SCP’s Role:

SCP were involved at all stages of the scheme, from planning through to construction. The planning team analysed multiple highway junctions to assess operation of the network and the impact on the bus lane.

SCP were also the Detail Designer for the scheme and they designed all the Civil Engineering, Drainage, Highways, Utilities, Signing and Lining information. SCP worked with TFGM to deliver the traffic signals design. Working as a single team with the utility providers the design was optimised to reduce the impact on existing traffic flows through construction. This allowed the utility diversion works to be reduced from £400k to £30k, removing unnecessary highway works.

The scheme contract was produced and tendered by SCP and with site support from the design team, the outturn cost of the tendered works was delivered within the figures quoted.
