SCP attended a Careers Fair at Rastrick High School in Brighouse, Huddersfield Tuesday 3rd July.
It was a great opportunity for SCP to reach the next generation of potential engineers. The students were aged between 12 and 17, years 9 through to 12. Other companies in attendance included FSB, Kirklees and Calderdale Council, Huddersfield University, Leeds University and C&K careers.
We were able to speak to a lot of the students, and it was interesting to note that only one of maybe 50 students we spoke with had any idea of what Civil Engineering was, but many have said that will now consider Civil Engineering as a future career and took details of the ICE website to become Student Members to further look into the opportunities available.
Charlene Wortley, Apprentice Engineer at SCP said; “I didn’t fully anticipate the interest we would generate and my table was bare early on, as the students took all of the leaflets we had within the first 10 minutes. It was a fun morning and even one of the teachers is now thinking of changing careers!”
This has been a fantastic experience for SCP and great for the industry to see and speak to new talent for the future.
