SCP assist in Holmfirth School’s bridge build challenge

SCP’s newest apprentice, Oliver Ward, recently volunteered at an event held on Monday 25th June at Holmfirth Junior & Infant School. The event, organised by Cairn Cross Civil Engineering in conjunction with CECA and CTG, saw up to 70 Year 5 and 6 pupils take part in a fun filled day of Civil Engineering activities. The challenges which Oliver assisted on, included the children working together to build a suspension bridge, a replica of the Bailey Bridge and drainage system.

Oliver commented;  “All of the children were very enthusiastic and very keen to get stuck in, we even had to tell them to slow down as they worked amazingly together and showed us they can work fast as a team. The children asked plenty of questions about engineering and were fascinated by it, many of them even said taking part made them want to be an engineer themselves. I think this is great,  it shows we inspired them and gave them a good idea of what it means to be in the construction industry.”

The end of the day saw the entire school coming down to the field to appreciate and learn about what the older pupils had built throughout the day. SCP were thrilled to be involved in the inspirational day and continue to show dedication to promoting the industry to the young engineers of the future!
